Kate van Rensburg, Chartered physiotherapist

Kate Janse van Rensburg MSc, BSc (Hons), MCSP, HCPC reg, MAACP

Director, Chartered Physiotherapist & Western Medical Acupuncture Practitioner

From the age of eleven, I knew I wanted to become a physiotherapist, though I never imagined I’d end up running my own practice—Acuphysio happened quite unexpectedly, just as the world was facing a global pandemic. I qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from Sheffield Hallam University in 1998 and spent over a decade working in the NHS across Gloucester, Bristol, Gwent, and Monmouthshire, specialising in complex musculoskeletal conditions.

My passion for learning led me to train with the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists and became a member of the AACP in 2002. To deepen my expertise, I completed numerous postgraduate courses, including a Diploma from the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine and a Masters degree in Orthopaedic Medicine from Middlesex University in 2007. These qualifications enabled me to take on clinical specialist roles in orthopaedic clinics and leadership positions and equipped me with the diagnostic and manual therapy techniques I use daily in my practice.

I’ve been practicing in private clinics since 2003, both in South East Wales and abroad in Southern Africa, where my family and I lived for six years. I am passionate about evidence-based practice; my MSc research on shoulder pain was published in a medical journal, and I’ve authored case studies on fibromyalgia and other health topics in various publications. My fascination with the benefits of acupuncture led me to qualify as a Facial Enhancement Acupuncture Practitioner.

In February 2020, I was delighted to open Acuphysio in the peaceful setting of Llancayo Court—though it was a challenging time to start a new business due to the pandemic. I believe that healthcare should go beyond just treating pain and injury; it’s about maintaining overall wellness. That’s why I love combining evidence-based physiotherapy with the ancient wisdom of acupuncture to help people move better, feel better, and stay better.

My goal is to provide personalised, caring, and high-quality hands-on treatment for the people of Monmouthshire and beyond. My reputation relies on giving the highest standard of treatment and advice possible. I am grateful to my wonderful patients who have trusted me with their care and have helped the practice to grow.
